Wow! My plates shrank!

One of the things I noticed when I was looking for a new home, was a recurring item that I noticed in many of the homes I looked at. I refer to the kitchen sink.

When kitchen designers are creating new kitchen designs, do they think our plates and cooking containers shrink when they're put in hot soapy water? Why else would they continually install double sinks like the following, with a smaller rinsing sink?

Why is the rinsing sink smaller? Do plates shrink?

What other kinds of silly things like that have you noticed in new homes?
