The Spectre Looms

Me on my first day of high-school.
Look at those knobbly knees!
I was in year 9 here.
The spectre of my 30 year high school reunion looms closer with many of my former classmates planning to get together. I'm sure most of them hope that everyone else is fatter and wrinklier, and less successful than they are.

I was one of the rejects at school, which suited me because most of the more popular kids weren't particularly nice to me anyway, and I had no intention of acting like them to fit in. So, a high-school reunion to me is somewhat like fingernails down a blackboard. The only other people I would like to catch up with were the other rejects I hung around with at school, and they, like me, probably aren't interested in going to the reunion for the same reasons.

And while we are on the subject of past history, I'm throwing a New Year's party with the theme of "Regression" where we are supposed to dress up from an time in our own life. I suppose I could come dressed up in my school uniform, but perhaps I may just come dressed as a toddler.

I'll have to check if mum can still make me a little smock dress like she did when I was three. Now all I need is a giant lollipop.

  1. Well Vicki as you know I am about to attend the 30th reunion at Rydges. I have to admit that I have not felt the excitment that Alison (Cowan) seems to think I should. I have managed to keep in touch with a couple of girls (who are still living in Rocky and have kids in some of the same circles as I do) and of course Alison. Of the boys that will attend I feel that because I didnt have much to do with them at school and because I only really was there for 11 and 12, I am not that excited at all about catching up. I know Alison is filled to the brim with excitment. Over the years I have become a really quiet person who socialises with different groups of friends when we organise to see each other and of course I enjoy these occasional get togethers, but at the end of the night I am always happy to go home and unwind by myself. I have a very small window of "party" and because I don't drink or smoke (anymore) I run out of puff very early. Also I do not enjoy talking to drunk people. Suffice to say I have not been looking forward to this weekend as I am afraid most will find me not very interesting at all. However on the other hand I may just have the best weekend catching up with the people I do know. It has been interesting reading everyone's life stories although I do feel that some of the boys have tried to outdo each other in the peacock stakes. And yes it will be interesting to see who has lost their hair. There will be at least 37 actual students attending, some with families. A couple of them I have never heard of and I am hoping I will recognise them in person. I am sorry that you think of yourself as one of the "rejects" at school as I have always thought your quirkiness as you like to call it as actually quite unique and interesting. Thats why I am enjoying your blog very much and intend on checking in regularly. Yes they were some pretty knobbly knees in your high school photo. And I am not sure that that skirt was regulation length either! Anyway I will let you know how it all went. Wish me luck. Robyn
