I love people with a quirky sense of humour, and especially when they want to share it with the world by creating a webpage all about it.
One of the spots I do every now and then on my radio breakfast show is weird and wacky websites and I’ve discovered quite a few over the years.
When you’re bored, drop into the website http://www.papertoys.com/ for a good selection of free items that you can print, cut out, colour in (if you wish), fold and glue together. I like the idea of being able to make my own English double decker bus or my own Mercedes for that matter! There’s a Bruce Lee doll and even our own Sydney Opera House. No problem with keeping the kids entertained for hours at a time. For quirkiness I give it 3 stars out of 5.
But if you prefer plants, then you could always grown your own furniture. You read that correctly “grow” your own furniture. At http://www.arborsmith.com/ you can learn to grow plants and trees into the shapes of chairs or benches or even tables. It’s a fascinating if slightly strange concept but recommended for the green thumb and for those with a lot of patience. This website is worth 2½ stars out of 5.
Did you love Donald Duck comics when you were a kid, then you can jump onto the webpage Duckomenta at www.duckomenta.de/index.htm. On this German site there are sections (raum) of different categories where they include images of Donald Duck that have been incorporated into well-known artworks. It’s a strangely exciting, amusing and artistic combination and for oddness, I give it 3½ stars out of 5.
If you thought the furniture and decorations of today are pretty bad, then check out the small collection of 1974’s worst interior decorations at www.omodern.com/Eurobad/euro.html. Rooms range from mildly unattractive to splendiferously vile. My favourite was the green trimmed kitchen with the matching green car in the adjoining garage. In fact, green was an obvious favourite in 1974. Be prepared to have your eyeballs almost burnt out by the bright colours! Of course if you’d like to buy items today that are little on the quirky side, the Funky Furniture and Design website has a small collection for you to enjoy at http://www.funfurde.blogspot.com/. I gave each of these websites 2½ stars of out 5.
If you grew up enjoying science fiction, then check out Martin Bower’s Model World. Martin has created models for TV programs and movies, and you can check out some of his amazing models on this website http://www.martinbowersmodelworld.com/. Martin created models of guns, spacecraft etc for programs such as Doctor Who, Blake Seven, Alien and much more. It sure brings back some memories when I look at some of these. I gave this website 3 out of 5 stars.
For some mind-bogglingly gorgeous images of the galaxy, then jump onto the Anglo- Australian Observatory at www.aao.gov.au/images. You'll be astounded at God's creative and artistic mind. 4 stars out of 5.
I’ll be sure to come back another time with some more Weird and Wacky Websites for your enjoyment.
